Lastpass Acquired by Logmein – Bye Bye

Logmein ( has done it again. Following their ridiculous price increases that caused many people to cancel their Logmein subscriptions, another product has now dead in my opinion.

Lastpass ( is a fantastic Password Manager. It syncronises over various devices and offers two factor authentication, even with their free version.

I’ve been using their free version for a year now and really love it. I was about to sign up to their paid version to get password access on my mobile.

That was before I saw an email saying they’ve been acquired by Logmein. Based on Logmein’s history of price increases and money grabbing, there is no reason to believe they aren’t going to pump up the pricing on Lastpass subscriptions.

I’m going to try out (Any other suggestions?)
A little more expensive than LastPass (at the moment), but when I left LMI, I promised myself that I wouldn’t give them a single penny more!

Remove RunDLL Popup – Cathel~.dll

A client was receiving this error every time they logged on.


There was a problem starting C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\ARCADE~1\CATHEL~1.DLL.

I searched the common places to try to remove this process from trying to start up and couldn’t find it.

Solved by downloading ‘Autoruns’ from Microsoft.

It lists all the processes that startup on login and allows you to remove them easily.


LogMeIn Price Increase (part 2)

I emailed them to query the pricing and got the most condescending email I’ve ever seen!

It started like this…

We are indeed introducing a new version of Central designed to deliver new value to all of our IT customers, while making it far easier for each and every Central customer to get the right product – and the capabilities – to meet their specific needs. No more, no less.

The new product is NOT my specific needs and IS MORE than I require. Adding extra features and charging more is exactly the opposite of ‘NO MORE, NO LESS’

I really take offense when you say that you deliver ‘new value’ to your IT customers.
It is not ‘new value’. You are forcing us to take extra features which we don’t use and don’t want.

DO NOT RENEW OUR ACCOUNT. I will certainly not be giving any LMI any further consideration.

Logmein Central Price Increase – Forget SaS

Logmein has just announced a price increase. Last year we paid £117+vat. This year, our renewal is £350+vat!! That’s a £233 increase!

I found a nice list of alternative products. Some may be SaS. Screenconnect looks interesting.

I posted this on their forum and posting it here to ensure it remains on the internet for future browsers.

Time to forget the Software-As-Service model and purchase a remote solution to ensure my costs are fixed!

Logmein has become a joke and extememly annoyed all their clients by sending an email talking about the ‘All New Central’.

After last year’s removal of Logmein Free and subsequent price increases for Logmein Central, when I saw that email, I KNEW that ‘All New Central’ meant ‘All New Pricing’.

We Small Business IT Professionals have enough to deal with in our business without having to struggle with Logmein pricing. Really unfair of them, and I really hope people switch away from them quickly.

Just for the record, I’m switching away from them, even if it costs me more. I don’t use companies that treat their clients in this way. Strength in numbers.
